XL Whole-Home Filter
The XL combines softening resin and carbon filtration in one treatment tank, with a separate brine tank for regeneration. It is an option for homeowners who want to address hardness and disinfectant taste together while keeping the equipment arrangement compact.
Reduce hardness at treated taps: Removing calcium and magnesium helps limit new scale on shower fittings, water-heating surfaces and appliances supplied by the treated line. Existing deposits can still require cleaning or service.
Address taste and shower odor: Carbon filtration works on disinfectant-related taste and odor in addition to the resin's hardness treatment. Chloramine performance depends on the actual media and contact time, not simply the presence of a black tank.

Treatment limits: The XL is not reverse osmosis, UV disinfection or a dedicated iron/sulfur treatment system. Fine-particle filtration may require a separate sediment cartridge. Larger peak-flow demands may favor separate softening and carbon vessels after sizing is reviewed.
CleanLine's dual-tank arrangement uses a dedicated softening tank and a dedicated carbon filtration tank, plus the softener's brine tank. Keeping the media separate allows each treatment function to be sized and serviced around your water and demand.
Hardness and taste handled separately: The softener reduces calcium and magnesium scale potential. The carbon vessel addresses taste and odor, so homeowners can understand which tank is responsible if a symptom returns.
More straightforward media service: Separate beds allow the softening resin and filtration media to be evaluated independently. They do not have to be assumed to wear out on the same schedule.

Food grade softening resin for hardness removal
Treatment limits: This is not a twin-alternating softener with two resin tanks. A separate softener and carbon filter do not, by themselves, guarantee soft water throughout regeneration. They also do not replace well-water iron treatment, microbiological testing or RO for dissolved-solids reduction at the drinking faucet.
A salt-free conditioner uses template-assisted crystallization media rather than ion exchange. It is an option when the goal is scale management without a brine tank, salt refills or a regeneration drain—not when the goal is removal of hardness minerals.
No regeneration wastewater: The passive conditioning process does not need a salt-regeneration drain. Installation still requires suitable plumbing, clearances and source water within the media's operating limits.
Keep the minerals in the water: Calcium and magnesium remain present. That distinction is important for homeowners choosing between conditioning and truly softened water.

None, no brine tank and no regeneration cycle
Treatment limits: Water will still test hard. Do not expect the same soap behavior or softened-water feel as ion exchange, or a guarantee of spot-free glass. Iron, manganese and other source conditions may require pretreatment according to the selected media's requirements.
A private well can need several different kinds of treatment. CleanLine's well-water approach considers sediment, iron and sulfur odor, hardness and any separately identified disinfection need, rather than assuming a city-water package will handle everything.
Address staining and sulfur odor: Oxidation and filtration can address iron-related staining and hydrogen sulfide odor when selected for the measured chemistry. A hot-water-only odor should also prompt an evaluation of the water heater.
Protect the softening stage: Treating problematic iron and sediment ahead of the softener helps reduce resin fouling. The softener can then focus on hardness rather than being used as a catch-all filter.

Treatment limits: Clear water and the absence of odor do not prove a well is microbiologically safe. Hardness, iron and odor measurements are not a complete drinking-water analysis. Unidentified contaminants need appropriate testing and a treatment recommendation tied to the results.
